Scranton would be a great school...If it were not in Scranton.
I'm finishing up a long, hard, painful slog through this place. 4 and a half years. If it weren't for faculty and staff (especially CTLE!) saving my neck more often than I like to admit, I would have run away screaming after my sophomore year.
If you do not have a car, don't go here. Scranton is sliding downhill, you will want a way out when the local area gets too confining. It's isolated, it's boring (there is no social life besides drinking, let's just say that here, okay?).
If I had to do it over again, I would save myself some money. Go to a community college first, get through the into work. Scranton's profs are generally really good at what they do, but the place is entirely too expensive to be undeclared at.
This is Northeast PA, folks. It's hills, hills, and more hills. If you have mobility issues, this is not the place for you. If you are not in shape...Get walking. Oh, and regardless of your fitness level...It gets cold here. First snowfall generally occurs by Thanksgiving, but you can expect it to get cold at night by mid-October. (2006-07 has not been a normal year, this is granted.) It doesn't really warm until April, but by the end of April, it will -bake-. Most dorms do -not- have A/C, even those that do it isn't great...This is a place you do not want to be living at during summer, plan accordingly. |
