My advice could be considered biased, but this is my opinion. All around, the University of Nebraska at Omaha is a great school, but there are certain issues that made my experience negative. I had no problems with the classes or the teachers. They all felt very well taught and gave me a challenge. The campus is a small yet very comfortable campus. It has an oldschool look with great technology inside. Everyone that I met seemed very friendly. The location I stayed in, Scott Village, was very comfortable. However, the biggest thing that pained me was the inability to work with me. Throughout the first semester, things were going well until I had some family issues. I missed some classes and fell behind, and I also got distracted and forgot to pay my rent. Well, that turns in to a letter saying that I could be kicked out. I appealed the letter, but missed more classes. Then I got a letter saying I missed too many classes, and would be failing those classes as well as putting me on academic probation. This was very stressful to deal with. The main reason I am so negative towards UNO is that throughout my hardships no one helped me. The counselours did not seem to want to work with me, and said that my issues were with the financial aid department and the academic offices. When one day when I asked for a counselour to talk to about dropping classes, the woman at the financial aid office replied rudely,"All of that is done online, so just do it there". The school seems like a great school, but I believe they should be more willing to work with students who are struggling. If I could do it again, I would probably go back to UNO, if I made enough time to actually go to school. Until then, I will do what I can afford - A community college. |
