University of Missouri-St. Louis, commonly known by its acronym
UMSL (pronounced "uhm-suhl"), is an
institution of higher learning located in Saint Louis,
Missouri. Established in 1963, it is the youngest of the four campuses of the University of Missouri System. The three other branches consist of the main campus in Columbia, as well as campuses in Rolla and Kansas City.It coexists in the St. Louis metropolitan area with two more prestigious private universities: Washington University and Jesuit-run
Saint Louis University.In short, UMSL is a solid commuter school with above average academic resources, although in the last few years it has started
to attract more traditional students with the development of a residential infrastructure. Campus infrastructure, including
libraries, classrooms and computing facilities, is first-rate.UMSL has the only cooperative engineering program run by both a public and a private university in the United States (the
