If I had to choose again, I would not choose this school. Its urban setting and party/fraternity atmosphere are very good for some people, but not for me. On the plus side, the academic programs are very good and there are excellent opportunities and advantages to being associated with such a good, well-known school. It is also located in an excellent area for those who enjoy the night life, beaches, and other similar outdoor activities.

I have made friends from all over the country. The only bad part about going here is being away from your friends over summer because many live far away. Don't go unless you know you can handle being independent and away from home. It is a great school for education and, according to its number 1 playboy ranking, a great PARTY SCHOOL!

I chose to attend University of Miami because of the beautiful location as well as the great scholarship package I was offered. While the school still has remnants of its "Suntan U" reputation of the 1970s and 80s, President Donna Shalala is going a great job of investing in bringing intellectual firepower to the University, recruiting renowned faculty from all facets of academia. There are several opportunities for students to get involved in leadership and volunteerism. Student GOvernment provided me with some of my best memories from my college days. I would still choose to go to UM if given another chance; the combination of a good school with a great scholarship in an amazing location is hard to beat.

I think the most important thing to understand about the University of Miami is the weather. Everyone knows it's nice and most would appreciate the warm weather but what I didn't think about until after attending was the other opportunities the weather offered. Being nice and warm outside actually contributes to the academic experience because people can meet up outside to work on projects and socialize and clubs can host events. Every day different clubs hold events in the center of campus on the rock or patio or table in the breezeway. This offers the opportunity for everyone to see what is going on and truly get more involved on campus.

The location of this school can't be beat - sunny Miami, Florida, right on Dixie Highway, close to beaches and the business district of Coral Gabels. As a relatively small school you don't have to disappear in the crowd. There are plenty of opportunities to shine. The campus itself is great, with a terrific Student Union, great music and theater, beautiful scenery, especially around the lake (watch out for the geese), an excellent library, terrific sports teams, and decent dorms. Parking is always a problem - if you can live on or very near campus it would save you much hassle. Very important: if you don't have a strong work ethic this is not the school for you. There are way too many temptations to lure you away from your studies. On the other hand, Miami has world-class departments in many areas of study, including the sciences, engineering, music, law, medicine, marine science, and latin American Studies. In addition, because of its location, U.M. can serve as a gateway to South America and the Caribbean.
