Although this college is known for it's engineering department, the electrical engineering department seems to be lacking funds. I am in my 3rd year and the last two semesters we as a class had to complete a design project and create a prototype by means of soldering and/or wire wrapping the entire circuit. A printed circuit board would make this so much faster and easier and the means of prototyping we have done are not very efficient. If you really like to put long hours into working on one project and then writing an extremely lengthy report on what was done, this is the college for you. Also, the long hours of homework seem to be a lot more than some of the other colleges my friends go to. Now that I am in the home stretch to my degree I will finish things out, but if I had to go back and make this decision again, I would be going away to college instead of living at home. This is a private college and has security and a fenced in campus, but anyone can just walk onto the campus as they please. The only people that get stopped are the ones who drive in. Being in Detroit I do not feel comfortable being on campus when it gets dark outside, especially with multiple robberies occuring on the street where the fraternity houses are located (behind campus).
My advice to anyone wishing to attend U of D Mercy is to make absoluelty sure that you stay completely focused if you are there to learn. The school is pretty small so if you don't want the entire campus to know your business, don't tell anyone! As far as education, most of the teachers are pretty dedicated and may even call you at home if you miss class. Financially, this school was a pain. Tuition was very high and I often wondered if it was worth it. My overall experience was positive, so I would probably go there again if I had to. For anyone considering this school, as long as you are focused and have plenty of money to spare, it's perfect for you!
