I would strongly recommend students to go to The University of Dayton. There are a lot of interesting classes to choose from. Some of these include: Wine Tasting, Christian Marriage, Death- Dying and Suicide, Abnormal Psychology, Conditioning and many more. Because of the liberal arts education requirements, you may have to take classes on subjects you are not interested in, however, receiving such a well-rounded education is extremely important in the world we live in today. The education you receive is excellent. Because of this excellent education, you may find yourself struggling in some of your classes. The majority of professors want you to succeed, not fail, and it is important to remember this. If you go to their office hours and talk to them they will help you. Also, most of them are extremely accommodating if you cannot meet during their set office hours and will work with you to find another time to meet. On rare occasions you will have a professor who is not so accommodating. While this is unfortunate you do not need to worry; If you make an appointment with your Dean he or she will discuss your options with you. Your Dean wants you to be a successful student and will not patronize or scold you. Upper-class students live in the student neighborhood surrounding the campus and this neighborhood is lovingly referred to as "The Ghetto." UD students like to party and upperclassmen love to welcome underclassmen in to their houses on the weekends to join in on the fun. You do not have to be invited to the parties in the ghetto; Walk in to someones house and you will be welcomed with open arms. There are fraternities and sororities on campus. There is a wonderful balance of students in fraternities and sororities and students who do not belong to them. You will find yourself friends with anyone and everyone no matter if you choose to join or not. Dayton Flyers love to go to sporting events and the big sports are basketball and football. If you are religious or spiritual you will want to familiarize yourself with the Campus Minsitry Office. You will find support and help for whatever you are looking for. Spiritual retreats that do not focus on a particular religion are available as well as are Catholic retreats. If I had to choose all over again I would definitely still choose to go to The University of Dayton. One important thing I wish I would have known beforehand though is that it is definitely possible to party and get good grades.. you just need to get your work done and then party! Many students like to go out on school nights and there is some pressure to do the same. If you get all of your school work done than go ahead and do it. If you just party you will not survive. Also, if you do not enjoy partying, don't worry, there are plenty of others who do not enjoy partying and there are a lot of other things to do! Make sure to get off campus once in a while. You may think that Dayton, Ohio has nothing interesting going for it besides UD but if you go downtown and go to "The Oregon District" and research the area, you will find really cool, really interesting places. Many students at The University of Dayton have loads and loads of money.. but you would never know it!! Everyone is so down to earth. I think it must be a mid-west thing. I never once felt uncomfortable around people because they had more money than me. Go Dayton Flyers! |
