The college community is incredibly diverse and the academic opportunities are outstanding. With such a large student body, however, it is easy to get "lost in the crowd" and not have a personal experience. My advice to students attending is to get involved, especially with students in your major. It will make the your time there much more rewarding.

My initial advice for Stonybrook University is to network with other students and live on campus. Campus life is great and the campus is well maintained. Networking with students while on campus forms a sort of community that can be grown to your advantage during your studies. I would heighly recommend Stonybrook University especialy for sciences and medical sciences. I would immediately attend Stonybrook University if I had to again, and in fact I am considering doing post graduate work there in the near future. The pros are as follwos: great organization, great on campus life, fantastic gym and student facilities, and outstanding staff. The cons: Food is mediocre, parking is packed, and tuition is rising. People should know that this university is one of the top universities in the country.

If you're looking for a science or engineering school, Stony Brook is one of the best in the nation, and since it's a state school it's really affordable. The academic work is challenging and will test your limits, but when you're done you have a world-class education, a degree that will impress people. On the down side, it's a state school, and is subject to funding by NYS. So, while a lot of new buildings have gone up and there have been improvements to the infrastructure, there are still a lot of run down buildings. I've been there three years, and the scaffolding around the physics building hasn't moved, nor have they done any work on the building. There are major drainage problems when it rains, and the mud puddles are terrible. And forget about the snow and ice in the winter - the maintenance teams only clear snow away from the areas that get the most traffic, and if it melts and re-freezes they never put salt or sand on the footpaths. Overall, it's a great school; just don't forget to bring waterproof boots.

SUNY Stony Brook is a large, highly competitive university on Long Island, New York. The institution has a growing reputation as a center of excellence in its both undergraduate and graduate departments. It's engineering, computer sciences, pre-law and pre-med programs are highly successful. Due to the large number of students and competitive environment, Stony Brook is not a place for those seeking a close relationship with faculty. However, those who can cope with and navigate in this type of school will find many rewards here. Given it's costs and level of education, it is one of the country's great values in higher education. Stony Brook attracts highly qualified students and faculty from around the world. Given its proximity (1 hour) from New York City it is a worldly, cosmopolitan school of the very first rank.

I had a generaly good experience. I think the college has changed greatly since I wasthere. The college is big as are the introductory classes. Once you find a major and get into the upper level classes, you start getting the personel attention you would expect from such a well known college.

I loved it there, in fact I know work there. Stony Brook is a great school that offers so much to its students. It has a great campus living environment and one of the better dining halls for Sunys. There are a wide variety of majors and minors, always leaving options open for the undecided student. Suny Stony Brook is one of the top Suny schools in New York, and I am very proud to have graduated from Stony Brook. There are professors here that have made world changing discoveries, and you get to learn from some of the best in thier fields. Many of our academic programs are rated in the top 10 in the nation. I am very glad I came here and I wouldnt change it for the world.

This college is good for medical students and computer science students especially for programmers, Its a good college over all but there are lots of parties and drugs even though they don't tell you in the brochure the housing and living on campus is not a good thing because if you have a habbit of partying you will take ten years to graduate but if you have a habit of studying you might be able to graduate sooner. The classes are large average class size is 100 students. Most is about 800 students in one class. Least is 35-45 students. Exams are very hard depending on the class, some professors are mean others are nice campus is very long and it has its own football stadium parking is spacious but you will need a parking pass thats 130 dollars a semester or they will give you tons of tickets. Food is good at wang center but very expensive and population is basically half indian and half chinese the rest is the rest of the people. This is a university for smart and the smartest if you are average you won't survive if you take bio or computer science for your major.
Stick to business. Its a blast if you have some friends.
