I would definately recommend this college. The atmosphere is great, everyone is helpful and friendly. The college itself is beautiful, the landscape is great. You can't go wrong with choosing this college, it has a major for everyone. Even though it is a big college, it is very easy for someone from a small school/town to adjust.

This university has a small town atmosphere. During breaks, the college and town of Carbondale are very empty. The level of difficulty for classes depends on the professor. There are many professors that have lax grading technique and even allow open book/notes on exams. The football team and basketball team have been ranked at points in the previous years.

Southern Illinois University Carbondale may have the reputation as being a party school, but many of their academic programs are as good as anywhere. It is the farthest Illinois major university from Chicago. Therefore, students can get away from home and still receive in-state tuition. Carbondale is very handicapped accessable on campus and in town.

The instruction at the college is excellent and most of the teachers take an interest in their students. The city itself is kind of underdeveloped and there is not much to do. The administration seems a little ineffective, as many university improvement projects have had funding issues

I would recommend SIUC to anyone. I would go back given the opportunity. Pros: Cool, friendly people. Nice campus Professors that are mostly good educators Plenty of beautiful people Diversity Cons: Dorms could be better Dorm food could be a lot better Maybe too much partying - need self control As with anywhere, some TA's are jerks.

TIPS: don't ride your bike to class, live in tritowers, learn your way around faner your first day, spend time in the Japaneses garden I recommend this college because of its awesome activities on campus. And would do it all over again. It has a wonderful campus and an artsy feel to it. Walking to class you will always see people handing out fliers, bands playing, military recruiters, among other groups gunning for your intrest. Not all the teachers there are top-notch, so check out your teachers reviews online before you sign up. Make sure you never listen to what your academic ad visor tells you, you don't have to listen. Never sell or buy from the bookstore. Yes, it is true, SIU is a party school... but you don't have to drink, I never did.

Take advantage of the college’s career services in Woody Hall. They don’t advertise their services much, but they can do a lot for you. They can help you determine what the best career is for your personality and capabilities. Decide a major and plan ahead before you seek an academic advisor. To the advisor you’re just another student out of thousands that they see every semester. If you are gifted in one subject, but a little slow in another like almost everybody then you should balance out your class load with classes you really like and classes that aren’t as fun. Your advisor doesn’t know what a good mix is for you. It is your responsibility to make the best out of your schedule. And finally, take a walk around the campus lake. The paved path just isn’t for health buffs, during the fall it is one of the most relaxing and breath taking scenes in southern Illinois.
