SFSU is not your normal college. There are no frat houses, old brick buildings or traditional on-campus communities. It does however, offer a huge variety of degrees, most with excellent programs that will train you in real world knowledge. There are over 100 majors to choose from. Beyond academics my favorite part of attending SFSU was the student body. It is the most diverse public school in the US and attracts a large international population of students. This diversity brings all types of prespectives (even if you disagree with them) to the classroom, which adds more the learning experience. Don't be shyed away from the CSU system if you look down upon it. After graduating with a BA in Geography I found a job as a full time staff researcher across the Bay at UC Berkeley, where I am more qualified then their own graduates.
I recommend this college for education and social work.
I was a business major and there are a lot of unpleasant politics and professors in that department.
The education and psychology departments and well known in SFSU. Computer science is ok but not the best. To graduate from this university successful you must do internships and build your resume yourself. Don't accept SFSU to be your selling point.
The location is ok, I recommend taking public transport. Parking is very hard to come by.
San Francisco State is an amazing school full of diversity and real life. The teachers are smart and "with it" and the students arent crazy. There are classes on all race issues, gender issues, social and political issues... its great. No matter where you come from or what you belive you will fit in becuase EVERYONE IS DIFFRENT. The campus is very liberal and they understand what is going on globaly. If you like to party and be dumb then southern cal. is more for you since SF state is more of a commuter school but you will be able to make friends if you want to and San Francisco is an amazing city with tons of night life of its own.
