San Diego State University (SDSU), founded in 1897, is the largest and oldest
higher education facility in the greater San Diego area, and is part of the
California State University system. In
2003 it had a student body of more than 30,000 and an alumni base of 200,000. The Carnegie Foundation has designated the institution a
"Doctoral/Research University - Intensive," and the campus offers bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees in a total of 151
fields.
