Make sure you take in the town - lots of good places to eat & drink - especially on George Street. You can walk to many places & the bus system is excellent - it will take you to all of the campuses in the New Brunswick area (Busch, Livingston, Cook, Douglas & College Ave.) Parking is tough, but like I said, the buses will suffice. Off-campus living is hard to come by, but there has been much construction since my graduation and I'm sure that on-campus housing is easier to get. Overall, I think the experience made me grow up a lot & I loved it - have been back!!!
Rutgers was awesome. At first I was unsure about attending Rutgers; I was leaning more to Penn State. I didn't want to go to Rutgers because it was too close to home and seemed really big. Wow was I wrong. Rutgers was great. The social life is fantastic and there are so many opportunities and perks when you go to a large school like Rutgers. The gyms and workout classes are fabulous. There are so many options of classes to pick and clubs to join. I was really shocked at how strong of a reputation Rutgers has when I was looking for a job! The professors are top notch. There are very few people who shared the same major as me (geology) so my classes junior and senior year were really small. This was great because I had the benefits of both a large and small college. Also the athletic games are so much fun especially with the success of many of the teams! Go to Rutgers... you really won't regret it. There is a niche for everyone at RU.
Overall, I found my Rutgers experience to be a positive one. The school is large, so there's always something for you to do and for you to get into. But even though the school is big, the different campuses each have their own "personalities."
College Ave is where everything happens. Busch has all the Asian (myself included :x), Livingston is pretty quiet, and Cook/Douglass is the faraway land :x
Finally, the culture is pretty good. The food around campus is unique (Maxim gave the fat-cat the top sandwich award!).
Overall, I had a great time at Rutgers
This is the best place for a degree in Library Science. I prefer the program at Rutgers to the one at Drexel. I would choose to go here again. I continue to take the great courses online in Library Science to keep my knowledge up to date.
Rutgers New Brunswick is a great school for anyone who wants to explore many different fields. It is big enough that there will alawys be a club/class/bunch of library books addressing almost anything you're interested in. I would reccomend taking in as many lectures, films, art shows and other happenings as you can.
The downside of all of this action is that it is easy to get distracted.
The University is very large, which is a definite con for students used to a small campus with small class sizes. There is no "hand-holding" either; as a freshman you are viewed as an adult and are responsible for your affairs. If your parent tries to talk to the administration often they will be told to have the student call back. I chose this university because it was close to home and a good value. I would still choose this University if given the option.
1. Yes, students should know it is up to them to make sure they meet the requirements for the academic program they choose. 2. I would defintely recommend this college. 3. I would choose this college again. 4. cons: large classes pros: good academics, diversity, nightlife 5. It is not that safe for females to walk alone after dark.
If you're planning on attenting this school try and avoid living on Livingston Campus. It is out of reach of the major social happenings of the University and the dorms and other buildings are dated. If you're going to live anywhere try and get an apartment off of Easton Ave or live in Campbell or Hardenburgh Hall. Also, in the first couple of semesters take classes that interest you; not necessarily classes that you need for your major or in order to graduate. This way, you can find your interests and essentially your major. Take early classes if at all possible to avoid the mid-day and late-afternoon crowded buses. If you want a positive college experience go to this school. There are numerous social organizations and the classes are not extremely difficult. The football team is doing excellent and the future of Rutgers is looking very bright.
I ejoyed Rutgers a great deal. I think that it is an excellent place to get an education so long as you are a student who will seek out available opportunities and pursue them on your own initiative. I say that because it's important for people to understand that Rutgers, being such a large school, is not a place where students will get a log of personal attention and guidance. Nonetheless, the school offers a great deal of opportunities and resources for students to grow, learn, and mature. These opportunities just have to be sought out.
The professors are some of the best authorities in their subjects in the country but some of them did lack teaching skills. More of the professors were good than bad at what they did though. So overall, Rutgers is a great place, especially if you're from NJ and won't be paying out of state tuition rates.
Although Rutgers University has a very good reputation, I have not found my first year there enjoyable. I am a commuter and I have found that many of the activities and classes are not exactly commuter friendly. Many take place too late at night for it to be reasonable to stay. With the exception of one professor, I have found many of the professors and teaching assistants to be very helpful. However, with regards to the administration, I cannot say the same. They are not very helpful and seem to have a desire to make things more difficult than they should be. There is a great amount of nonsense that goes on dealing with times and places of tests among other things. Another difficulty that I have found at Rutgers is travelling on buses between campuses. When you first begin attending the school, they give you the impression that you can only attand one campus. The truth is that while you are only registered at one campus, your classes can and most likely will be on many different campuses. If you are a commuter it means that you can only park on one campus and from there take buses to your other classes. The classes are extremely fast moving and filled with students that are competetive with their grades. While I do not enjoy Rutgers and would not chose to go there if I could do things over, I have met many people that have loved it. To go to Rutgers you need to have a desire to be in a large, fast paced school.
