I enjoyed Rutgers-Camden immensely. Rutgers-Camden is a small school where everyone knows each other and it really feels like home. In the dorms, I remember we used to party in the hallways and have countless water balloon fights in an empty parking lot nearby. When exam time comes, all the study lounges are occupied by people studying the same thing I'm studying, which makes for very effective study groups. Inside the dorm, there is also a computer lab, a fitness room, and a recreation room.
Professors are very personal and will try to help you in every way possible. In my freshman year when I didn't know much about college, I was already shown opportunities to do research in four different areas-chemistry, computer science, economics, and NJPIRG. Unfortunately I couldn't do them all but it has definitely shown me what a great community it is. Many of the professors knew my name, my major, and some even knew my background. I have to say many of my friends were jealous they didn't get that kind of attention at their colleges.
I also have to say the meal plan is amazing! It works like a debit card system instead of a meal system, which is good for when getting a small snack or just some dorm supplies. Besides the usual cafeteria food, they have Starbucks, an ice cream place, and just general groceries such as toilet paper, laundry detergent, potato chips, etc. I forget the name of the restaurant, but the place next to the dorms has the best buffalo wings ever!
Although the city has a bad reputation, I have not really felt it. In fact, it was a good oppotunity to learn about homelessness as well as the revitalization of the city. Not only that, I have also heard the "real" bad part of Camden is a bit further away (driving distance) from campus. |
