If I had to do it over again, RIT would be one of my top choices but I don't know if I would pick it again. I think its a great school for learning but the campus and activities are just not up to par when comparing with other colleges. I would recommend this college to someone getting a graduate degree, engineering degree or computer science degree - great facility and education. The college is a dry campus and the greek population used to be prevalent and have a lot of parties. This has since ceased and the college is some what boring.

The campus is nice, natural outdoorsy. However it's very depressing brick red everywhere. The professors are great in my opinion, for my department anyways (Software Engineering). The one thing I wish would be improved is that the actual standards for getting in are sort of low. This was done to increase admissions. However, later they realized that these people would just leave after their first year. So now they decided to lower some of the standards of the school to increase their retention. On top of this, the school is a little short on housing. Not really a party school either if you are interested in that. You learn a lot though cause the professors that are good, make you learn. Kind of pricey though.

You can't knock the instructional side of RIT, professors are knowledgeable and helpful, classes are small, equipment is state of the art. Dorms are in decent shape, most being refurbished in the last decade or so. Food is pretty good for a campus, but you will be sick of the main dining hall after a few months but there are other places on campus to get food. Its pretty much a geek school, most people you meet are going to be either an art geek, computer geek, or deaf. guys/girls is a little on the low side but not a huge disproportion

There are many resources available, including some amazing computer labs and the inter-library loan system which allows you to borrow materials from libraries all over New York. If you're going to enjoy your experience, you really need to get involved in clubs or organizations. Espically when winter quarter sets in, you need to have something to keep you busy, oh yes and... beware the quarter mile in the snow!

The one thing I noticed while attending RIT is that it is a very practical school. I'm taking a Computer Science major, and everything about the major and the school itself screams "do this so you can get a good job." It's more about the idea of working in the industry than actually learning about computer science. While this is great for some people, it's not really what I was looking for, and I likely won't be getting my graduate degree here.

If anyone is considering RIT, they need to keep in mind the weather of Rochester, NY. Other than the weather, RIT is a great school with great faculty and great facilities. RIT has developed so much in the 4 years I have spent at it. I would reccomend this school to any prospective student. RIT will give you a great education and a good college life regardless of what you hear.

Rochester Institute of Technology is a very good academic school. I graduated with a degree in Management Information Systems from the College of Business. I receive all the tools I need to excel in the working world. I am currently working for a fortune 500 company with a good starting salary. However, the campus is not very active. Compare to other school, there are not much school spirit. RIT does not have a football so there are no good tailgating. VEry much parties. The general population at RIT rather stay in and play video games. It is also a very expensive school. I have rather large loans to pay back. You also have to grow up quick there. I was living in an apartment here and had to worry about bills at the age of 18. The weather is very bad there as well. You have to deal with large cold winters where you barely see the sun and 12 inches of show can come out of nowhere. So the school provides excellent education but low on some of the "fun" college perks at other universities.

This College has a lot of clubs and activities to join. I would definitely recommend this college for any engineer. If I had to do it over again, I would still choose this college. The only con I can think of is the weather, it gets really cold in the winter. There is always something to do here, and the classes are challenging.

Great academic experiance as far as colleges go - far suprasses the majority of universities. However, the price reflects this, so its not a really good deal by any means. Also, if you have a problem with walking an excessive amount, the campus is not for you. There is a 1/4mile walk between the academic side of campus (where classes are held) and the living side of the campus (dorms). This distance is generally increased depending on which apartment complex you come to live at in your ensuing years. Food is slightly above average. Climate is sub-par, but that is not the colleges fault. Very cold, and almost always cloudy, if not precipitating in some way. All in all a good school if that's what you're looking for. However if you just want to go to any college it is not the place to go for you, the price is very high and the climate isn't very nice.

RIT is a very unique place. It provides a broad spectrum of majors and opportunities for the college-bound teen who doesn't know exactly what he or she wants. The co-op program is exellent, providing real world experience in a career with good pay. If you are considering RIT, make sure you can deal with the two biggest drawbacks (to a guy). The weather, and the women. RIT is notorious for never shutting down, even in the most extreme of winter conditions (which you will experience if you come here). Also, the ratio of men to women is 70 to 30, something I particularly dont like. If you can deal with that, RIT is one of the best collages for preparing you for the real world and getting you a job immediately out of school.

This school is good because of the amount of co-ops you go on. The required year of co-ops make you very sucessful when starting a job. I would recommend this college to anyone who wants to become an engineer. The pros is that it is very educated oriented and focuses on academics. The cons are that it has no real party life. This school is a great engineering school that prepares you for sucess.

RIT is a (relatively) easy school to get in to but a difficult school to stay in. Retention rates are low, although they are trying to improve them. They use a quarter system, which is extrememly fast paced and pretty stresfull. The party scene is pretty minimal, and there's not much to do around here unless you have a car, and even if you do have a car there's still not all that much to do. So why bother coming? It's a very good school, which is what's really important anyway. Almost every professor is willing to help if you're willing to do the work, and there are free tutors and other help for any assignment. If you're looking for a party school to get drunk and watch football games look elsewhere. But if you want a headstart on everyone else in getting a good job after graduation, RIT might be for you. Oh yeah, the weather sucks too.

I love this school. It's a great place to be if you're a geek ,or if you're a girl looking for some attention from guys. The ratio is about 7:24. Maybe you'll be lonely sometimes, but you'll learn a lot.

In truth, I didn't come to RIT to get a technical degree. I came to study American Sign Language because RIT is the home of NTID, the National Technical Institute for the Deaf, and they have an outstanding program for training ASL interpreters.
I know it's easy for many people (mainly guys) to think that RIT sucks because "there aren't enough girls" around, but as a female here, I see plenty of other women. True, it depends on which major you're in (I think Software Engineering and Computer Science may have about 5 girls a piece) but you'll find plenty of people to get along with if you get away from your computer.
Also, RIT has a large number of clubs (last I heard, about 124) and one of the largest Anime clubs on the east coast, if that's your thing. If not, there are plenty of other opportunities to get out and meet people.
You may have heard that we're called Brick City, and that's not a lie at all. Yes, there's a lot of brick, but you get used to it. Plus, you get out into the city and you'll barely see any.
Overall, I've had a great experience at RIT. I've met some great people, I started some new hobbies, and I really feel that I'm making myself a better person by being here.
