The majority of professors at Ramapo College of NJ are great.
There are a few that are burnt out and would be better off staying out of the classroom. There are a few others that know the subject matter well but lack the ability to transfer that knowledge to students. You can tell who they are by how quickly their classes DO NOT fill up during class registration.
The dorms are much better than average, with the exception of CPA, which is know for roach infestations.
A parking permit costs $200 per year and it does not get you a guaranteed parking spot near your dorm. Students circle the lots for hours at night, burning gas, looking for open spaces. Make sure you have a snow shovel in the trunk of your car and/or 4wd. Parking lot snow removal results just plain suck.
A warning to parents. You will be hounded at night by phone calls from students hired to try to get you to donate money to the college during fund raising drives. You will get mailings trying to sell you overpriced "care baskets" for your student.
As a parent without a parking permit NEVER leave your car unattended near any of the dorms. Security is aggressively fond of giving anyone a parking ticket, 2 or 3 tickets at a time, $50 each, if you park your car and get out to help move your kids stuff in or out of a dorm... and if you don't pay the fine they will hold it against the student and refuse them a diploma.
This school has a very strong social work program. It was a small school when I attended, but I understand it's gotten much larger. They've added quite a few programs and they've built many new buildings. However, when I was there, the staff was excellent, it had a "homey" feel and was close enough to the New York City that one could enjoy nights out.
