For students especially interested in science, computer/mechanical/electrical engineering, business, and liberal arts programs, Oregon State University is a very decent school.
If I were to redo college I quite possibly would have enrolled in the engineering program. The engineering program at OSU is in the top-25 in the country and engineers from Oregon State make an average starting salary of around $50k to start. Computer engineers at OSU enjoy the brand new $90 million computer science building that was just built in the last three years.
The University is committed to expansion and excellence with its faculty as they are currently in a campaign to raise $650 million for more buildings and principal for tenured professor positions.
The campus is very beautiful and pleasant to walk to class through with scenic buildings and a bike friendly city. As a former student government member I can also tell you that there are over 380 groups and clubs to belong to on campus which makes meeting people and getting involved in extracurriculars that much easier.
Sports and entertainment are also great as the school boasts a back to back national champion baseball team, a good football team, and other top division athletic events to attend.
Corvallis is also wedged in between Portland and Eugene, OR, which makes going to the big city for fun on the weekend very easy if you need to get out of town. The Pacific ocean is also just a 50 minute drive to the west.
A great school all around! Close to the beach and to Portland, where their is lots of shopping. OSU provides a great and safe environment for students to experience college the way it should be. The only con is that is rains a lot in the winter.
I had such a blast at OSU, I would recommend this college to anyone who wants the ideal college experience. The longer that I have been away from college the more I wish that I could go back. OSU provides its studetns with such a fun learning enviroment and so many activities. Also, Corvallis, where OSU is located, is a beautiful small town with everything you need, and not a lot else. The Oregon coast is only about an hour away, and so is Portland. The only con is that it rains a lot during the winter.
Good environment. Strong forestry college with a good teaching forest nearby. Good housing and dining services. Beautiful campus. Good football and baseball team. Seemingly good diversity of student body. I would recommend this school.
I would advise students to keep math and science subject notes from high school to refresh memory before entering college. I think that you should take as many college prep classes (AP etc..) as possible because not only do they look good, they really do help with time management in a homework sense. I would always refer this college. The pros are that it is a pretty open campus with lots of good research and opportunities. Also there are a lot of good resources around to help with different subjects. The cons are that class are a bit too big and there are a lot of people that really don't deserve to be at a 4 year school and thus fall behind. The TekBots program is very innovative and Corvallis ranks up in the top 5 in patents per capita in the US.
I had a great experience at Oregon State University. The learning environment is exceptional and allows students to excel personally and academically. OSU provides an incredible amount of opportunities for its students in all areas of academics and extra curricular activities. I would highly recommend OSU to anyone. The campus is very beautiful and there is lots to do.
I would recommend this college very highly, they have an excellent science program, great student involvement through activities such as intramurals, the greek system and athletics. I would go back to OSU in a heartbeat if I had to do it all over again. As far as advice I would give to students, I would say get involved early, make lots of friends and study hard. People should know that this university is on the cutting edge in nanotechnology, wave research, veterinary medicine and forrestry. Pros to the university include the science program and student to teacher ratio. Cons to the university is the small town of Corvallis that surrounds it. I would highly recommend this university.
The campus is fantastic, it feels like a close knit community. THe campus is all concentrated in the same area and is integrated in the city. Cross the street and you are in town! Downtown is less than 10 min walk!
Education is great, especially if you are looking for engineering, forestry, oceanography or agricultural science.
Professor support can be lacking at times and the quality of instruction is weak. The student collegiality is excellent and the resources for research assistanceship plentiful.
Oregon State is a great college. It is big, but not too big. There are a lot of majors available, and the school has a great great reputation in a lot of fields. If you are an Oregon resident then tuition is very affordable too.
