North Central is a well-respected local liberal arts college. I recommend considering North Central if you are looking for small class sizes, opportunities to get involved, and the feel of Naperville, IL. Some majors are stronger than others. For example, the radio journalism major is much stronger than TV journalism. Other strong majors include education, psychology, and business. One major advantage of the school is the area. Naperville is very nice with a lot to do. Unfortunately, it is also expensive. There are also amazing facilities on campus for radio broadcasting, and they are building a new fine arts center. The stadium is one of the best in Division III athletics. The biggest con is the small size. This is good sometimes, but the small feel can feel suffocating. I recommend moving off campus on your junior year (most people will save money) and working off campus if your classmates get on your nerves. Because of downtown Naperville, parking can also be a problem, especially for commuters, but if you're willing to walk a block, you can park just off campus much more easily. Actual life at NCC varies depending on what you're interested in. It can get cliquish, but you can also make good friends. The cross country team is always together, the science kids are always in the science building, and the radio people are always at the station. If you're not involved, it can be hard to make friends (especially because there aren't any frats or sororities). To truly enjoy North Central, joining clubs, sports, or getting really involved in your major is the best way to go. |
