North Carolina State University is an institution of higher learning located in Raleigh, North Carolina. North Carolina State University
was founded and designated as the state's first land-grant institution by the
General Assembly in 1887 as the North Carolina College of Agriculture and Mechanic Arts.NCSU is currently led by interim chancellor Bob Barnhardt; NCSU provost James Oblinger will become the school's 13th chief executive in January 2005. The previous head, Marye Anne Fox, departed in July 2004 to
lead the University of
California, San Diego.
