  I love NYU, but its not for everyone. If you are looking for a traditional college experience, this wont be it, but if you want to go out around the city and experience art and culture, apply now!

  NYU is at the tail end of a pretty drastic turn. Developing from a commuter school to a recognized research institution, there have been growing pains. The community no longer enjoys our presence, we longer resemble the creative, freethinking coeds of yesteryear, and the place is incredibly expensive. Due to the cost, the student body has changed. Most are extremely well off (and thus can be off putting), or come from such privileged backgrounds that their admission seems to reflect more of their financial rather than academic standing. Don't get me wrong, however. I loved my time there. The first year can be very difficult for most students, as the exposure to the city, the other kids, and the classes piles up quickly. Many students transfer or take time off (including lots of people to earn some money to pay for more schooling). If you are looking for a COLLEGE!!11! WooT WooT experience, this isn't the place. You won't find kids playing frisbee, giving out free t-shirts, and holding keggers. Well, ironic keggers, maybe. If you are looking to meet really interesting people, have world-respected professors, and eventually be forced to move to the outer boroughs so that you can afford food, this is your place.

  NYU is a very competitive school in an amazing environment. Manhattan is your campus which can be both exciting and overwhelming. You have to be really independent in order to make it at NYU. Some people complain about it being tough in the social sense, but you really have to be sure to put yourself out there. I would highly recommend NYU to anyone, because the environment and professors are amazing. I would definitely go to NYU if I had to start all over again.

  Not only is this school hard to get into, it is hard to get into for a reason. Quality professors, amazing and diverse courses, and intelligent peers. Housing is quite expensive, but it is New York City. This is a private university so tuition is expected to be expensive as well. The dining halls are actually quite good with a diverse menu. I would definitely suggest looking into and applying to all the scholarships and grants you can.

  Highly competitive; little room for a social life. If you succeed here, your career is basically established. Put in the 3 years and then collect your return on investment for life.

  Great school for the motivated and self-sufficient student seeking a life of freedom and opportunity in the big apple. Bad for people wanting a preset social structure and academics organized ahead of time. That being said, there are more opportunities during and after your NYU education than any other school in the country. The largest job market is at your fingertips and NYU has all the internship programs, contacts, and prestigious school status needed for a successful future.

  I went to NYU's school of engineering and science which NYU in its wisdom(?) decided to close in the 1970's. This was a great school, on a beautiful campus in the Bronx, NY City. If you are considering NYU now, go there - it is a great opportunity to come to Manhattan and try to make it in NY. I would go to NYU again. As an NYU alumnus, you can join the Princeton Club and participate in all social activities of the Ivy League colleges - a super opportunity to mix!!

  NYU is great. I highly recommend it. It's in the best city in the world, and is on the cutting edge in many areas, including philosophy and economics. If you like having a definite campus, don't go here, but if you love the big city and going out, it's the place for you. The girl to guy ratio is 60:40.

  This is a college that is hard to get into but worth it. being in new york is great beacause everything is always happening. The dorms are nice but tend to be very crowded. The work is very hard and with all the studying you dont have much free time. But it is very rewarding and the professors are great. No matter what I would come back to NYU. Nothing is like being in the Big apple and going to a great school.

  location, location, location. great faculty and facilites if you can keep from getting lost within the masses. organizations and support groups that cater to just about any interest/concern imaginable and a very strong alumni network.

  New York University is a very unique school in US.
It doesn't have a real campus as most others have, but you will recognize NYU building with purple flag immidiately. Given its location in downtown New York City, you will very much enjoy BIG APPLE. For student with non-science major, I will definitely recommend NYU to you. Its law, business, film schools are all very good! NYU is also very famous for its apply math department. For science major, I also think it is worth going.

Pros: Living in downtown area, everything is easy to find.

Cons: Living in downtown area, everything might be a little expensive.

  NYU is a quite unique university.
Given its location at downtown NYC, it is not surprising that it doesn't have a real campus like most Univ in US. NYU is a pretty good university, in terms of academics. Law, Business, Film, Math, Neuroscience majors are quite good and famous in the world.
One disadvantage of NYU is the dorm for student is expensive. But it is in downtown NYC. This also means that it is easy to get to Wall street.

  If you are coming from out-of-state, I would definitely recommend NYU, as it offers a great mix of liberal arts education (Literature, Journalism, Art, Music, Film) as well as a great business school. The key benefit however is being exposed to the diverse student body and the diversity NYC has to offer. If you are local, I would not recommend NYU for as a commuter you lose out on the sense of comraderie and the overall University experience. You should seek to grow by going away and experiencing living away from home.

  My experience at NYU was a very positive one. I graduated in May '06, having been there for four years in the Stern School of Business.

If you are a prospective student considering this college, there are few things to keep in mind. First of all is the cost. NYU is a very expensive school, although not exceedingly more so than most other private universities. What really influences the cost is housing choices - they can range anywhere from $8000-$14000 per year! If you are taking out financial aid loans, it might be best to consider a major that will give you a career with immediate cashflow to pay them off; otherwise, getting out of debt post-grad will be difficult.

The college itself is an excellent learning and networking environment; in the business school msot of the professors were retired professionals of the fields they lectured in - their network of contacts is invaluable. Also in the same vein, your fellow classmates are more likely than average to be in positions of leadership, which greatly assists you in your future endeavors.

I would definitely repeat my experience at NYU if given another chance. One thing I would advise an incoming student to remember is to take advantage of everything the school has to offer. Going to school in the city makes it easy to overlook alot of the resources that your tuition goes towards paying - make sure to get your money's worth!

  New York University was a great place to spend four years. You couldn't ask for a better learning experience than New York City: even if you get stuck with uninteresting classes the city offers a huge variety of opportunities to learn outside the classroom. However, many of the introductory classes are enormous, with professors who have no idea who you are. Once you get to the more advanced courses though, the class size is significantly smaller, often 15 students in a seminar style environment. The red-tape in the admnistration can be a hassle for everything from registration to graduation, but if you can learn to negotiate that, there are very few downsides to the school.
