I withdrew from Morgan in 2008. My social experience is one for the books (because I was in band and we band people created our own fun), but my overall experience isn't quite memorable or valuable. During my two years at Morgan, I never felt like I was living the traditional college experience. There was no school spirit whatsoever. The majority of the students were very juvenile and failed to make the mental transition from high school to college. Morgan had a very secondary school atmosphere. Greek life was mediocre. The administration cared little about the students and never invested in our best interests. The campus was dead. Because there was never anything to do, students often fought a lot over nothing and held "parties" behind Rawlings Residence Hall. My professors and advisors were decent, but I friends who often complained about how unhelpful and apathetic their professors/advisors were. Most students were not motivated to go to class so many flunked out after their 1st year. Morgan does not have an educational atmosphere and the administration knows this, but they insist on accepting below-average CHILDREN, even if they don't meet the admission requirements, for the sake of their money. This is a well-known fact. They simply throw these hoodrats and thugs in the pre-college program during the summer, expecting them to be "smarter" by the fall. They never are. This is a primary reason why Morgan's graduation rate is so low while the dropout rate is overwhelmingly high. If you can get into a school with higher standards, an atmosphere that promotes academic excellence, and more prestige, then do it. Morgan should be everyone's "safety" school, unless you are an engineerin major. . . their program is pretty good. If you are an out-of-state student and do not have a scholarship, DO NOT COME HERE. Out-of-state tuition is absurd. Add required fees and housing/room & board and you might as well prepare to be in debt unless your family is rich. Morgan isn't worth $22,000+. This is one of the many reasons why I had to withdraw. The tuition is going to stay on the rise as well and I feel sorry for those students currently enrolled who aren't aware of this. Also, the majority of the students are very narrow-minded, it's hard to find a serious relationship, the city of Baltimore is uneventful, dirty, and dangerous (Morgan is smack-dab in the middle of the hood), Baltimore residents are some of the worse people I've ever encountered, and the administration are for the most part uncaring and useless. |
