The strongest aspect of Miami University, in my opinion, was its capacity to allow undergraduate students to conduct and present original research. At Miami, students are not limited to working on projects of their professors' choosing; they have the freedom (and the funding) to create and pursue projects of their own initiative. If I had the choice again, I would definitely have chosen Miami for my undergraduate degree.
Good academic programs; it just seemed like everybody was a business or marketing major. Got real depressing to walk through crowds of hundreds of people who only cared about money. If this sounds like you, you might want to check out Antioch just down the road as an alternative.
I really enjoyed my time at Miami University. For students looking for the ultimate "college" experience, this is a great place to be. The campus is beautiful and the town is very fun and oriented towards students. The best part about Miami is how it melds a great social atomasphere with top-notch education - it is very much a work hard, play hard environment. The only drawback about Miami is that it is very non-diverse. Most people come from the same socio-economic background, and this can often be frustrating for people looking for more variety in their peer group.
Miami University (Oxford, OH) is a good academic school, however, tuition can get a bit expensive as compared with other public schools. Miami is quite conservative for a college, but the people are friendly and the professors are personally involved in the student's academic career. A student can have a wonderful time at Miami, but don't get too bogged down in the Uptown scene; I saw a few friends flunk out that way.
This is a great college for meeting people with similar views of life to your own. The student body is made up of several different backgrounds financially and the student body organizes into social groups quite readily. If you are interested in Greek organizations, this University is the home to the most alpha chapters of any university in the US! The campus is beautiful and small enough to walk from class to class. The bus system is set up well to get around the campus and the town. There are plenty of activities to keep anyone busy.
