Mercyhurst College is a Catholic institution that stresses the importance of academics. I graduated in May of 2006 with a degree in Intelligence Studies and a final GPA of 3.4. I believe that the courses Mercyhurst provides to students are much harder in difficulty than of courses that other institutions encompass into their curriculum. But, if you put in good amounts of time and effort, students should have no problem graduating with a 3.0 or higher. The small class size and very personable professors make the learning experience very enjoyable and quite frankly, easier to learn.
A con of Mercyhurst is that it is not a “party†school in that there are no frats/sororities and administrators take underage drinking very seriously. Through my first three years, my friends and I had to duck and dive many times when we were drinking and having fun. But, when students turn 21, downtown Erie (where Mercyhurst is located) has many bars to go to. Senior year was my favorite year because I was 21 and I did not have to worry about anything and I am glad that I did not transfer schools earlier in my academic career.
Overall, Mercyhurst is a very good academic institution that puts the students first, which is why one attends school (to learn). Though the party scene is lacking in some respect, it was still a fun school to attend.
