	Mercyhurst College is a catholic college in Erie, Pennsylvania. It was founded as a women's college by the Sisters of Mercy in 1926. The college, along with a high school adjacent to the campus, is still run by the order. Men were first admitted in 1969. Today, the school is known best for its programs in archeology, research intelligence, forensics, psychology, and the performing arts.

When P.T. Barnum donated money to Tufts University, he did so on the condition that the school's mascot be named after his beloved elephant. The Tufts University mascot has been the "Jumbos" ever since.
