My freshman year I wasn't sure I had made the right decision; Loyola didn't make my adjustment to college life easy. However, as I became more involved in the school I grew to love it. Residence life and the administrative offices both had a number of problems during my early years, but the student services have been consolidated and that is expected to solve some of these problems. Most importantly, the administration is doing things that really make me wish I had attended the school a few years later.
One of Loyola's strong assets is its geographic location, nestled along the north shores of Chicago's Lake Michigan beaches and at one end of the Magnificent Mile downtown--and if you're an adventurous student, everywhere in between.
The greatest aspect of Loyola is its professors. Not all of them changed my life, but I can honestly say that some did. The faculty is not split into research professors and graduate TAs who need to get their job done. Instead, each professor I had at Loyola seemed personally invested in the quality of education I was receiving as a student. The focus was often on personal growth more than rote memorization, on each teacher's unique didactic insight instead of the standard pedagogical fluff I received in other programs.
I would highly recommend this college. If you don't feel it at first, stick with it--I'm glad I did. |
