I had the best four years of my life at Kent, but I must admit that I had to make this happen. I got as involved as possible when I was a freshman. It took I while, but I met a lot of new people and stayed busy. I developed a great group of friends who I am still close to. We went out every weekend and never struggled finding something to do. As far as academics, it is not the most competitive school, but most people have heard of Kent. College is really what you make it and if you come in wanting to make the most of college, it will happen! I loved it so much, I am back for graduate school.
I would recommend this college to students coming out of high school or transfering. Kent State welcomes all kinds of students into its ever growning campus. I had an excellent experience with the education department at Kent State University. After graduation, I did not have any problems getting a job after employers seeing that I went to Kent State. If I had to do it over again, I would still choose to go to Kent State.
Going to Kent State University is a viable option if you are a commuter student who wishes to live at home, but those seeking a traditional "college" atmosphere may prefer elsewhere. Because the overwhelming majority of students live within 20 minutes of the campus, so the school is deserted on the weekends. Those few students who live in the dorm are left to wander the dorms alone.
The city of Kent doesn't have much to offer in the way of nightlife, either, though it can claim to be the home of the original Buffalow Wild Wings (BW3).
The cost of attendence is very inexpensive, and parking isn't nearly as bad as at some campuses, so by and large, this is a great school for non-traditional students returning to class, but not a good fit for students straight from high school seeking a party.
This school was really great. Most of the teachers I encountered here were very well informed and helpful. Also the campus life was fantastic I'm still friends with people I met at Kent.
Kent State is not a very challenging school. I would have rather gone to nearly any other college, but this is what I could afford. The atmosphere at the school is very nice, but the college is lacking in its academic. This college is slightly above a community college level, so anyone who excelled in high school should steer clear.
Overall good experience. Campus has grown tremendously since graduating. New dorms, new buildings, and new overall face-lift to the university. I thought they had a dumb rule that freshman had to live on campus. The parking lot was miles away and had to be bussed to the lot. Learning environment was overall very good. I had some teachers that were hard to understand, especially in science classes, and others that were tremendously helpful. They have a very good program for political science students that can get up to 18 upper division credit hours by interning in Washington DC. Easy job, learn a lot, and get to meet interesting people. Definitely the most memorable semester for me
