It's out in the middle of nowhere, but there are plenty of great people and great academic programs. The architecture, engineering and veterinary programs are ranked very highly nation-wide. The campus is nice, I walked to class every day for five days.
Kansas State University is a great college to attend. I would definitely recommend this school, and would probably attend again if I could do it all over again. They have some really great programs, their vet school is one of the best and they also have a pilot program at their second university location. The professors are very good and there are many wonderful opportunities available for students. My advice for prospective students would be to take advantage of the travel opportunities provided by the university. Many programs and clubs take trips, especially over spring break, and they are inexpensive considering the traveling you will be doing.
While this is a great school there are a few things students should know before attending. One thing is the lack of diverse jobs and possible internships. The university isn't located in a large city, so there just aren't the same possibilities for jobs or internships as there would be in or near a large city. Also, while the university does attract a diverse group of people, you will find there are a large number of students that enjoy the "cowboy/cowgirl" look and lifestyle. There is nothing wrong with this, as most colleges attract certain types of people. Just a tip in case someone is looking to go to a place that has more "city" people.
I transferred to this school my sophomore year. If I had it to do over again, I would have just started at Kansas State my freshman year. I would have gotten more financial aid that way, plus I wouldn't have the debt from one year at a private college. The only advice I'd give is to make sure your instructors know you. It takes more of an effort on your part, but at a large school like K-State, it really pays off to sit up front and ask questions. The more a teacher knows you, the more likely they are to give you the benefit of the doubt when it comes to grading. The only other advice I have is to take advantage of student pricing on football tickets while you can. Once you get out, those tickets are expensive and the people you have to sit by aren't nearly as fun as the ones in the student section. :)
This is a very good college. I have had great experience with the faculty and advising staff here at K-State. One of my complaints is that the dorms are not very appealing. Most of them are run down, and I find myself wanting to live someone where else. But its a great campus, and if I had to choose again I would still pick KSU.
K-State is a great college and anyone can recieve a top notch education there. The social setting is dominated by young students from mostly rural areas throughout the midwest, but also has a significant amount of diversity. The College of Engineering and the College of Agricultural Sciences provide the nation with excellence that is second to none.
Kansas State is a great place to attend college. There is a great variety in the programs offered. I like that the education was quite practical.
People should know that KSU is not the "farm school" or "ag school" that many people think it is. Yes, there is are these types of programs, but there are many more program that cover a wide variety of skills and interests.
