  This is a great place to earn your education no matter what you are interested in. There is lots of activities to do and clubs to join so you can find where you fit in fairly easily. If it weren't for JMU, I wouldn't be where I am today.

  I would recommend this college and in fact my nephew just was accepted and I am very proud. I went to this college 20 years ago, but have kept tabs on its progress and growth. JMU is now much larger than when I was there, but it still retains what I think is it's greatest strength, it's community feel and small college atmosphere. It is a friendly place where people will smile and say hi as they pass. I had easy access to my professors. My professors were the ones who taught the classes and held office hours (I thought this was the way it was supposed to be, but in the UC system the TAs seem to do everything). There were many opportunities that I could avail myself of while I was at JMU and the experience was mine to make of it what I could. JMU has a good reputation among VA state schools and on such lists that are out there. I don't put much stock in that sort of thing. I can tell you that you will get a good honest education and will enjoy getting it. I have a degree in science, but I still highly recommend a liberal arts college experience to give that "well rounded" education and I am proud and grateful to have had the opportunity to attend and graduate from James Madison University.

  I would recommend this college 100% to anyone who wants to have a good time while earning a good education. Two things specifically about my experience are there I am a member of Sigma Nu Fraternity chapter at James Madison and also a business major. Something people might not know is that our business school is actually ranked in the top 40 nationally for undergraduate business schools.

A con to the experience at James Madison is the sports experience. We are Division I-AA, meaning that we have good sports but we aren't quite at the level as the most nationally-recognized sports schools such as Florida, USC, Michigan and the likes.

It is very easy to fall into the trap of drinking too many nights a week and skipping a lot of classes. But everyone, just like at any university, needs to put grades and a degree, the reason they came here, in front of partying sometimes. The parties are great, the girls are fun and great looking, everyone is outgoing and it's generally a fun time. It's located in the Shenandoah Valley, a great part of this country. The weather varies a lot and we often get some nice snowstorms. I definitely recommend going to James Madison University.

  Anyone considering James Madison University should know that it is a party school, but I would recommend it even if you are concerned with academics. If I had to do it over again I would choose JMU because they really were 4 amazing years. Pros: Good looking people, party school, inexpensive Cons: In the middle of nowhere, not academically competitive Something you might not know about JMU is that it smells like dogfood on campus when it rains.

  I recommend this college to students who aren't looking for a "research" or "ivy league" institution, but want a well-rounded, medium-difficulty school. JMU is really what you make of it. You can take great honors courses and seminars to get the most "educational" value, or squeeze by with the minimum and take advantage of the great party scene. There are a ton of great clubs, too, and an excellent recreation center. The food on campus is better than any other school I visited friends at. Most of the professors are very friendly and easy-to-approach. JMU is a great school at a great price, and I'm glad I went there.

  James Madison was a beautiful, friendly, welcoming and intellectually challenging campus. It's not a "big city" university; it is more rural, which keeps things more serene in the neighborhood. The college always provided something to do, whether a club or group or just activities sponsored by the campus. The people, both students and faculty, are so much more affable and open than at other colleges; I walked around once in a Powerpuff Girls t-shirt and had JMU students smile and compliment my tastes; at a later visit to some of our "rival" schools in the same shirt, I was met with sneers and disparaging looks. Everyone seems so much more willing to be personable at JMU. If you want a more relaxing, slower-paced, rural college with a liberal arts focus, then I can think of no better match for you than James Madison University. I genuinely loved my time there.

  JMU is a great school. Located in the Shenendoah Valley of north west Virginia, it is set in very scenic area close to Skyline Drive and Luray Caverns. The School itself was founded in 1908 to educate women as teachers. The heritage as a women's school is still there, since around 64% of the students are women. JMU has a very large party scene, mostly off campus at apartments near or on Devon Lane just off Port Republic Road. Alcohol at JMU is free, everyone is very nice and kegs are always open. You will never pay for beer at a party. The girls are very attractive, probably from working out so much at the enormous recreation center U-Rec. With a swimming pool and climbing wall included with the normal weight room and aerobic classes, its a very popular place on campus. The classes vary, but JMU is well known as a Health Sciences school, and is very well known for its Psychology department as well as Education of course.

  I absolutely loved attending James Madison University. Ever since my initial visit to this school while still in high school, I have loved this school. I absolutely love its location, nestled in the valley of the beautiful Shenandoah Mountains. The weather was great, particularly in the fall. If you are an outdoor person that really appreciates nature, the location of this school makes it perfect for you. Academically, I thoroughly enjoyed my program and professors. Class sizes were small and intimate which faciliated discussion and learning. Harrisonburg, VA is a decent size town. There were enough things for young people to do that kept things interested. That may be different now as I graudated from college 9 years ago, but I would like to see more minority students enrolled at JMU. I would definitely recommend this school to any student consdering it. The people are friendly and it really becomes a home away from home.

  James Madison University is a great place to go to college. There is a great life around the university. The school itself is a bit liberal and annoying, but besides that it's great.
