IUPUI is a great school to go to if you decide to attend a school that is focused on commuters. It is very affordable in comparison to living on campus at a traditional college and paying room and board. It's not the school to attend if you want that whole college experience of living on campus and having a life that centers around the school. Most of the people go to classes and then leave the campus for work, family, etc. IUPUI's students are mainly people who are incorporating education into their current busy lives instead of only attending school. Most classes have lots of optional class times. I've had more great teachers than teachers I don't like. My advice is this is a school for people who have a good idea of what they want to pursue. I say this because I feel that they offer very common degrees that can be found at just about any school. There are all of the basics such as accounting, business, biology, math, nursing, etc. More creative degrees just don't seem to be a part of this school yet. There is no four year degree for music, fashion design, etc. The biggest piece of advice I have for students going into this school or any other college is don't believe the advisors when they tell you to spread all of your classes over the week. It sucks to drive up there four or five days a week. Also, the parking permits are expensive and there isn't enough parking to keep up with the increasing student population. Another downside is the expensive housing. Only freshman can live in the dorms since it is in the city (downtown Indianapolis). The campus apartments are extremely expensive. They cost as much as the expensive downtown apartments but are kind of small and not as nice. |
