Frostburg State University, located on a 260 acre (1.1 km²) campus in Frostburg, Maryland, is part of the University System of Maryland.The school was founded in 1898 under the name
State Normal School #2 and began
teaching its first class in 1902. Its original mission was to train teachers for the
Maryland public school system. In 1935 the school was renamed
State Teachers' College at
Frostburg and began offereing a 4-year degree program leading to a Bachelors of Science in Elementary Education degree. In
1963 the school was again renamed, this time as
Frostburg State College. In 1987 Frostburg received university status.Frostburg has three colleges:
- Education
- Business
- Liberal Arts & Sciences
and, in addition to the Baccalaureate, awards Masters degrees in both arts and sciences.
