Fort Hays State University is located in western Kansas in a small town of around 20,000 people. It offers a variety of majors including nursing, psychology, chemistry, modern languages, and english. The slogan of Fort Hays State is affordable success. This is true. It has the lowest tuition in the state. It has sister univerisites in China. It also has a virtual college. The goal of the president of the university is to have 5,000 students on campus and on line. A student can take a mixture of both types of classes.
The reason I went to FHSU is I grew up in Hays and I didn't have to move away to go to college. The majority of students are from surrounding towns in western Kansas. It is a party town and a drinking town. The pros are the affordability, small class sizes, and ability to focus on your major. The cons are it is a small school, it is not extremely well known, there isn't much in western Kansas and it only had the basic majors. It is a great place for general education requirements if your major isn't located here. I've enjoyed my experience at FHSU and will graduate in a year. I know I can continue my education at this univerisity or where ever life takes me.
I have loved my experience at Fort Hays. I wish there was a better representation of other cultures (besides white middle-class students) but the university does its best to provide students with a cultural advantage. There are many available opportunities if students are motivated to take advantage of them. The professors (for the most part) are always willing to help and will actually know your name. The virtual college also helps working students to be able to be more flexible.
