There are a lot of good things about EWU, many of which stem from the fact that it is a smaller school. Chances are usually good that people you meet in classes, you will probably run into around campus. By going to a smaller school, I was actually able to sit down with my professors, pick their brains, and get to know them as people. They also do a very good job of helping students graduate in four years. Their Finish in Four program was a great help. Because it was a smaller school, I was able to start a club, and be in a leadership position, an opportunity that I might not have had going to a bigger school.
Some of the downsides are more cultural than anything. Eastern Washington tends to be more politically conservative than thsoe who live on the western side of the state. Also, there are a lot of crazy and very manipulative evangelical Christian groups on campus. If you do plan on joining a religious organization at EWU, exercise a great deal of caution. While the majority of the students at EWU are women, many of them will either be engaged, or already married. So, it narrows down the dating pool a bit.
Overall, I learned a lot about myself while going to EWU, and had a good experience. Knowing what I know now, I would probably go again. |

Eastern Washington University is one if the best state supported colleges in Washington state. Not only will you receive instruction from knowledgeable proffesors and other staff members, you will get it at a great price. EWU is the least expensive state supported university in Washington, and while the price may be discounted, the education you receive is not. Not only is the education inexpensive, the surrounding area is as well. EWU is located in Cheney Washington, a much smaller, less expensive, and friendlier city as opposed to a town such as Seattle where the University of Washington is located. The campus is beautiful, and most of the buildings are up to date and designed with excellent architecture. There is no lack of extra curricular activites at EWU, and there are plenty of friendly students around to join you in them. Eastern is a great school, and I am proud to have gone there. If Eastern had offered a masters degree in my major, I would have gladly attended. |
