My son applied and was accepted to DePaul. We visited before that and were given a group visit and tour that included 30+ people. We have paid a large housing deposit ($500) to hopefully get on campus housing because it isn't guaranteed. We live over 8 hours away and my son was going to visit some other colleges in the Chicago area. We called DePaul to see if he could set up an individual visit with an admission counselor or someone to answer the normal questions that someone has when considering a school. We were told no that they could answer the questions on the phone. Then he was notified that he could attend an hour and a half long finance class. Now, who would want to do that? And what questions would that answer since that will not be his major? I called again and finally found a person that said he could talk one on one with an admission counselor. So, he flew to Chicago, took the train to DePaul and was put in another group visit!! He was not given any opportunity to speak to anyone one on one. Who would want to send their child to a school who won't give them the time of day? What do they treat their current students like?
I had a GREAT time at DePaul! I went to the School of Music there for five years, just taking a couple classes during the fifth and final year to finish off a double major.
I always fancied myself a "country boy", but I LOVED living in Lincoln Park for those first four years of going to school there.
Met some lifelong friends, had the greatest professors (something verified even more after attending some OTHER schools and having a miserable experience with the teachers there), was within walking distance of the lake, Lincoln Park Zoo, great music venues, and of course Wrigley Field.
Great location. Great city. Great teachers. Great atmosphere. Great campus. Great opportunities. And a great education.
The only negative, of course, would be the price tag. It is a bit pricey. But if money is less of an issue for you, or if you can get a scholarship of some sort, it's a great choice.
Four of the best years of my life...
