The College of Staten Island is an excellent school for undergraduates in the medical, pre-medical, and biology fields. The Biology faculty is a combination of young and spirited, and older and experienced. Professor Santora, a 25 year old graduate of the school, has appeared on NOVA, the PBS program several times and is doing yearly research in Antartica; Professor Oppenheimer is a member of the EPA. The Chemistry department as well is doing fascinating work on nanotechnology. So if you're a bio/med student, this school is a great choice because tuition is so cheap -- 1600 per term. However, if you are interested in the liberal arts, you would do better by other CUNY colleges, in particular, Hunter. The school does not give as much money to their liberal arts programs, and some professors in those fields are upset by this. Also, the school has a major problem with parking, and it is difficult to access via public transit, even if you live on Staten Island. Only one bus line passes by the school's entrance, and during rush hour, it's often better to wait for the next bus after everyone has squeezed on to the first that comes by. Brooklyn residents can ride the limited S93 line, but only in the afternoons and early mornings, and then only once an hour. |

Interesting Fact |
When P.T. Barnum donated money to Tufts University, he did so on the condition that the school's mascot be named after his beloved elephant. The Tufts University mascot has been the "Jumbos" ever since. |
