  I attended William and Mary for a degree in English and found the college's programs in the humanities uniformly excellent. Business students also enjoyed the school. I didn't take many science classes but in general I found the school a little weaker in the sciences, although there were some excellent students on various pre-med paths. Overall W&M is very undergrad-teaching and liberal-arts focused even though it is a national university - you lose some of the profession-oriented options of a larger university (nursing, pharmacy, real journalism program, sports management, etc.) but you gain much closer contact with professors and small classes.

Williamsburg is a town that everyone loves when they visit it due to the pretty scenery and relaxed lifestyle, but the slow pace and frequent tourist overruns start to grate on some undergrads. There's not a lot to do in town once you've seen the sites and been to the parties. At the same time, students are free to focus on studies and campus activities rather than being distracted by options in the larger community.

A last note is that in spite of its southern VA location, the school has a pretty strong NoVA identity because so many of the students come from there. I met many more children of diplomats, politicians and army officers than traditional Southerners. If you're interested in things like the Peace Corps and Washington DC internships you'll like the peer group, but if you want barbecue and country music you have to look further south.

  I went to William and Mary Law School. On the positive side, the professors are wonderful. Williamsburg is a beautiful setting for school. On the negative side, the students are hyper-competitive. It really makes for an intense, stressful experience. If I had to do it again, I would have chosen a different school. The hyper-competitive atmosphere really turned me off.

  If I had to do over again, I would not have chosen this school. As an out of state resident, it is even more difficult to attend a small-sized state school. Many of the students know a number of other students within the student body upon arrival Freshman year, so it's impossible to escape the feeling of still being in high school.

  The college is a great size for those not wanting to be overwhelmed but still wanting to experience a diverse community. The location in Virginia is great so that you experience all types of weather with very few extreme weather days a year with which to contend. There are plenty of campus communities and activities to participate in and a few off campus hangouts that college students frequent. Parking is very limited for students with cars (after the first year). Some teachers were absolutely horrible but you will find that at any school with tenured professors who have lost interest. I think I had too many terrible teachers and that is why I wish I had gone somewhere else. I worked very hard for a C average after a 4.0 in a Private high school and I lost motivation very early on when I realized it didn't matter how hard I tried.

  The College of William and Mary, located in historic Williamsburg, Virginia is one of the highest rated liberal arts colleges in the United States. The college is focused on acedemics, with the majority of students strongly involved in their studies and other academic endeavors. Outside activites include visiting historic Williamsburg, Bush Gardens, and Water Country USA. The cost of living in Williamsburg is affordable. In-state tuition makes the College a very good deal for residents of Virginia.

  William and Mary is simply incredible. The students are friendly and intelligent, the professors are fun and helpful, and the campus is beautiful. I would recommend this college to almost anyone who would consider going here. It has the advantage of being a small school where the work is challenging but the student body is supportive and engaging. The only bad points to William and Mary would be the lack of real parking on campus and thus the inability to have a car until later, and the sometimes sticky weather in Williamsburg. However, the weather is only bad generally for the first two weeks and the last two weeks of school. Simply, William and Mary is amazing, and it would love to have you enroll!

  The Profs. here are WONDERFUL!! Knowledgeable, approachable and generally good people. The administration on the other hand, lets just say they can't be carbon based lifeforms.
