This college is located downtown amongst the all the activity that local shoppers do. It is surrounded by clothing stores and tons of restaurants. If you plan to go to this college you don't have to worry about eating the cafeteria food everyday because there are tons of other choices. The falculty is great as far as I know. I have had a few who I didn't learn well from, but that's because they had a different teaching style. As long as you find a teacher who fits your teaching style I think you'll be alright. There's always something fun happening and events, not just on campus, but off as well. The beach is 15 minutes away, so you should never get bored.
The college is located in the heart of Downtown Charleston. Campus is located about 20 mins from the beach. You can enjoy a short trip to the beach between classes but still enjoy the nightlife in town. While the campus isn't big it is spread across several blocks. Crossing the streets are the hardest thing and hinders you getting class on time. C of C doesn't have a huge emphasis on sports (no football team) but they are deffinetly part of the picture. Do make sure you watch where you are walking. The students and faculty refer to the bricks as the "damn bricks." The bricks make up the sidewalks and map out the actual campus. You can't graduate without triping on the things, but it is also quite comical when the person infront of you is talking on their cell phone and about face plants into the sidewalk because they aren't watching where they are going. So watch out for the bricks. There are a few pitfalls about living in Charleston. Parking is scarce and you have to pay a minimum of $200 just to park on the other side of town and take a trolley into campus. If you want convient parking it starts out around $400 a semester. You also have to remember that since you are in a city it isn't that safe to walk around at night by yourself (men and women). Though crime isn't a big problem on campus, you have many people on campus that don't actually attend the college. In reference to the dorms I consider them to be above average in condition and layout. I lived on campus at Clemson University and the dorms at C of C are like palaces compared to them and many others i have visited. Though there is a large greek community on campus, it isn't overwhelming. The greeks aren't the typical greeks that you think of. You know they are there but they aren't overpowering and you deffinetly don't have to be one to fit in on campus. The studetn body ranges from the eclectic art student to the professional fraternaty guy in the business school. The campus is more on the liberal side of things, and there doesn't seem to be too many rifts between the different social, ethnic, racial, sexual orientation groups on campus. Overall, the location is fantastic and the school is good.
If your looking for a small college with a big heart then the college of Charleston is the perfect school. First of all the college is located in the heart of Downtown Charleston so your in the middle of everything. The classes are small and the professors have real world experiences to teach upon. Plus your in the middle of downtown, from taking a quite walk back into history to going to the beach to some of the finest restaruants in the country its all here. The only draw back is the parking. Parking is limited and some what expensive but if you live on campus you don't need a car. Everything you need or want is with in a 15 minute walk. The college also has one of the most underrated basketball teams around and with new coach Bobby Cremmins everyone will sure know about then in a few years. Go Cougars
