Overall I like Clemson a lot. It's a nice place, the campus is beautiful, and for the most part the academics are pretty good. If you like sports you'll probably love Clemson, football is a really big deal around here (and if you don't, you can at least have fun on the completely deserted campus during football games). It's a big engineering school, so if you're going there for a liberal arts education I'd recommend shopping around a little more. Granted, they do have some liberal arts degrees (I'm in performing arts and I love it), but it's not the main focus of the university. Clemson itslef is located in a very small town, with the bulk of the downtown area split up over two major roads. If you need to go shopping and aren't interested in the Clemson memorabilia dealers downtown, you can drive for about 15 minutes to Anderson. If you want to go clubbing or hang out in a bigger city, you can drive up to Greenville in about 25 minutes, or Atlanta in 2 hours.
I recommend Clemson very much if you're interested in engineering or agriculture. Every other major I'd imagine is of roughly average quality and no different from any other college that doesn't specialize in them. I'm in their performing arts program concentrating in piano and other keyboard instruments, and while the department is very small, the quality of instruction is excellent and it helps to bring a little culture to the campus in the form of plays and concerts.
Some other assorted pros: Freshmen are allowed to have cars on campus, wireless Internet access is available almost everywhere, friendly Southern atmosphere, downtown area is very safe, and a number of local manufacturing firms like Michelin and Milliken who regularly take Clemson interns.
Some cons: Push for top-20 status may be unintentionally hurting the quality of the school, small-town atmosphere may be too restrictive for some people, and the parking enforcement can be ruthless sometimes. |

About a third of the students at Washington and Lee University still receive some financial aid from interest on an endowment set up by George Washington in 1796. |
