For being in the middle of NOWHERE, Central Michigan is an amazing place to spend your college experience. The campus is green and spacious, but not spread out. You can make it from one building to another very easily on foot in just a few minutes. Durring the spring and summer, the landscaping is breathtaking--I highly recommend staying up for Summer Sessions I and II! There are several bowling alleys, night clubs, a rock bar, and a plethora of regular old pubs in town for nighttime entertainment. You can spend your weekends walking the long, interconnected trail through Mt. Pleasant's dozen city parks--Chip-a-waters and Mill Pond are the best trails. Island Park is the best place for picnicking, frisbee or football. Any amenity you need is available in this tiny little town--from spas and tanning to more pizza than you could ever even ask for! Get your hair cut at the beauty college downtown, and then get a soda at the Downtown Drugs old fashion soda counter.
Back to the University itself, you will be very surprised by the high accrediation many of our programs get, and the teacher to student ratio is just right--almost NEVER any huge lectures, and you'll barely ever even meet a T.A., let alone have a class taught by one. Professors are eager to meet you in their offices for one-on-one--not like the Big Ten universities where they'd be reluctant to stop in the halls to hold a door for you.
Our Residence Life Program is one of the premier in the nation, and is a model for most Universities around the U.S. who are trying to make school more like home for their students. We have some of the most luxurious residence halls you've ever seen--you won't even be tempted to call them dorms!
Students are served by a support team like none others. Seeing an advisor is as simple as walking into their offices. If you make an appointment you needn't make it more than a week in advance. All students' financial and registration needs are fulfilled in the one-stop Student Service Court--right next to the Down Under Food Court serving food from all over the world in the University Center.
For athletics, the Student Activity Center is the perfect place to run or play raquetball--but you may have to wait a while for a treadmill or machine in the weight room. That's why many of the student residence complexes have fitness centers as well.
The Tribal Reservation adjacent to the University offers great educational opportunities for students, and the Soaring Eagle Casino and Resort brings in big name rock, comedy and television stars on a daily basis, while offering your family a comfortable 4-diamond option for when they come to visit.
Speaking of big names, you'd never believe the huge names that On The Fly, Program Board, University Events and the Speaker Series brings in. Later this evening Jesse Jackson is speaking on campus, and there's always a huge band like The Fray or Snow Patrol here on the weekends.
There is no other University like it, I'm sure. You'll be glad you came. |
