  The university is expensive. It can be a little dangerous, located in the heart of Cleveland. I wouldn't trade the precious year I spent at this university for a full four years anywhere else. I eventually graduated, did graduate work at other universities - none was ever as good as Case. Excellent academics and the diversity of people is amazing!

  My advice is to avoid this school if you either a). want to attend the liberal arts "side" of the school or b). want to go into computer programming. In my experience, all the Northside campus classes (and the majors associated with them) are as neglected as the buildings. You can do well seeking some sort of chem or engineering degree there. I would not recommend this college as it is overpriced for what you get, though they do have a habit of offering inflated scholarships with high GPA requirements as a lure to get students to attend (then they wait for your GPA to plummet and nail you with full tuition costs). To make matters worse, the campus is inundated with aimless geeks/nerds who are mostly depressed by the lack of focus in their lives and the profound absence of women on-campus. On the plus side, you will find some great campus LAN-gaming here.

  Case Western Reserve University gave me an excellent learning opportunity in an urban setting. The graduate schools are all on campus giving the students accesws to a wide range of experiences and University Circle is a thriving cultural community. It is not a typicla school but for any student interested in intellectual stimulation, open discussions with some of the best minds in the various fields and a deep alumni talent pool to draw upon it certainly is one of the premiere universities in the entire region.

  The school is great, if looking for a top notch school for science or engineering look no further. What is lacking is the general college feel of the place, being a place with future scientists and engineers most people are engulfed in their work and they may be difficult to pry away from what they are doing. But if you look hard enough you can find people that are very much like yourself.

  Case Western Reserve University is a very good school to receive a college education from, both in classroom instruction, and in lessons in life. I learned as much if not more from the diverse ethnic mix of staff & students who I attended classes with and socialized with. CaseWRU alumni have very good reputations in the business community, which helps open doors for your future career plans.

Case/CWRU's surrounding community provides many cultural, educational, and fun things to do when you have an opportunity to take a break from your studies.

Pick a major and minors which interest you - periodically review job postings in your area of interest and review their requirements. If you decide to switch your area of interest, CaseWRU has many to choose from. You might also find that jobs which really interest you require a little experience in a secondary field. CaseWRU can provide you with the fundamental core academic background you need as well as all those electives and extracurriculars you want.

You can do a number of things to make CaseWRU costs manageable: work to the best of your potential in high school to get good grades and participate in some extracurricular activities, apply early for as many college scholarships as you can. If you need to work and go to school at the same time, CaseWRU offers many classes at alternate times to accomodate most schedules.

  It's very much a non-party school; people are generally too busy staying afloat academically for more frequent debauchery. The campus, though urban, is quite pleasant, and the amount of arts and cultural experiences within walking distance of any dorm is simply phenomenal. I would recommend Case for people who want a 'good school' experience without as much of the baggage a more nationally/internationally prominent 'good school' name might carry.

  Case has recently tried to shed its image as an engineering school full of nerds, but prospective students should be aware that the school is still heavily biased toward the sciences. As a liberal arts student there, I did, however, recieve an excellent education and enjoyed small classes, helpful professors, and a great location in University Circle. Social life at Case is often said to be lacking, and it's true that you may have to create your own fun, or go off campus to find it. Downtown is easily accessible by public transit, and the bars of Coventry are a short walk up to Cleveland Heights. Additionally, University Circle offers great cultural opportunities, most of which are free to Case undergrads.
A common complaint among students is a lack of transparency among the administration, and in the past two years, high turnover and budget woes have plagued the school. A new president and the recent appointment of four new deans is promising though.
Students not from Ohio should keep in mind that Cleveland is dark and cold during the winter, and that snow days do not exist.

  very reputable. great location. well organized. especially mandel school of applied social science. people who want to suffer through being in cleveland are motivated and happy to be there.
