I think Cal State Northridge is underrated. I definitely recommend this school. I learned "real life" knowledge as well as coursework which has translated to a successful career. I was also able to network and make good contacts which helped me in both professional and civic endeavors. New students should enjoy the campus, and not just go for classes and leave. That's what I would do if I were starting over all over again -- and I would begin again at CSUN if I were choosing a university today.

I would make sure youre comfortable living in a big city...ive never gotten in an accident before and as soon as i start school here i get into a no fault accident. People here can not drive. As for the school, its good if you get involved! lots of stuff to do!!! I wouldn't recommend this college only because it wasn't my first choice, but its a good choice for people who want to live at home since it is a commuter school. Overall, its very diverse and its also very active campus, but remember with the budget cuts its super hard to get the classes you need if you don't have priority registration.

A large part of the campus fell down in the Northridge quake, and since the school was insured they got a lot of money to rebuild. There are many modern buildings on campus, and the school is spread out, there are lots of places to relax in the sun or shade and just study or read a book. The library is expansive and beautiful. You never have trouble finding somewhere to study (or just chill out and enjoy the quiet) and the school has an impressive collection of books and literary magazines. When I attended all students got a subscription to the Online Oxford English Dictionary through their library code. This is definitely a commuter school, though you can live on campus in the dorms. There are plenty of nearby apartments, including low income ones through the school, but for the most part I found apartments around the cups unwilling to rent to students. Northridge students tend to throw some wild parties. I wouldnâ€™t recommend walking around at night, I knew a girl who was attacked walking back to the dorms at dusk, and once I returned back to the dorms to find the whole community on lock down because the police were hunting a serial rapist. The location is pretty good, there is a grocery store within walking distance of the dorms and the Northridge mall is up the street, also walk able, but a couple miles. You can catch buses there, but I use to walk a lot.

I'm a third year college student at Cal State University Northridge, aka CSUN to the students. This school is in a great area... located in the Greater LA area so you have access to a lot of events and activities but it is also located far enough away so it doesn't have that busy LA feel. I really love the sshool, the students are all very nice and the dorms are great for the first year experience or even for a longer stay. The dorms are setup like apartments for 4 people. You have a large bathroom, living room and kitchen and two bedrooms each for 2 people unless you chose to select a single room for a little more money. The teachers are all very nice and professional. There is always something to do on campus we have a wonderful Associated Students group that keep the students entertained all year round. There is one thing I really cannot stand... we don't have a football team! We do have basketball and nearby colleges with football games you can attend but still. Since the school is in the greater LA area there are a lot of commuter students so we don't have mayny things going on in the area for students outside of our school but you can hop on the highway and find something to do nearby. The area is very nice and quiet and your family can visit without seeing alcohol all around. We have great security and wonderful staff all around. I would go again if I could choose.

The California State University system is one of the last bargains left in higher education! Take advantage of it. The tuition and fees are low, the instruction is generally very good and the research & library facilities are top noch! One drawback is that the campus life is not that 'swinging' because this is mainly a commuter school.
