Antioch University, Los Angeles is an excellent place to train for a career in psychotherapy. The graduate psych program places a strong emphasis on examining your own life in the light of the theoretical information you gain in classes.
While my colleagues from other schools were writing research papers, I was covering the same material, but researching my own life. Sharing this information in classes and listening to my classmates was a powerful bit of education. Antioch worked with me so that I could attend classes full-time, work full-time, and participate in a traineeship.
Instead of issuing single letter grades, instructors write summaries of student learning for each class. The feedback is much more meaningful than that received from traditional grading systems. Most classes are small and intimate. Instructors are memorable, knowledgeable, and skilled.
Antioch has a similar philosophy for their other graduate programs. My wife completed her BA degree at Antioch also. She became disabled during her stay there and the school worked with her to empower her to complete her coursework.
The U.S. federal government spends less on education than the U.K. (which has a fifth the population of the U.S.)
