I attended Albright College as first a bio major, and finishes as an econ major. Overall, I'd say it's an alright school, however, there are a couple things that have caused me to give a less than neutral rating.
The campus is relatively nice, however it's very small. This school is smaller then my high school, ~2000 kids, both in student body size, and building size. This can feel slightly depressing knowing that you went to public school for free, and now are paying a lot of money to go to a school that's smaller and with smaller facilities. The location in Reading is also not the best, it's nothing like a "college" town, in fact there is nothing to do around the campus unless you enjoy visiting bars and strip clubs.
The professors are also slightly under par. After comparing my experience in the economics program with other students from varying other schools, both large and small, I found that our curriculum was extremely lacking, and most other students had done things in intro and lower level classes that we either never learned, or was treated as an advanced topic in higher level classes. Furthermore, none of the professors really have any "connections", so you're on your own looking for a job after college. Along these same lines, there is a career development center here, but they also have no placement service, and do not have any connections to any businesses, even local. They will help check your resume, but then told me to go to some "online job search sites and good luck".
Overall, this school is expensive, and does not deliver much. It's too small to really get that college experience, and you won't feel very connected to it. Most things you'll find are lacking, and you'll always feel comprised in some area. If this school were cheap and you were saving money going here, these would be things you'd have to live with as they would be worth it, but these are not things you should have to deal with while paying a premium price. |
