I highly recommend this college for the right type of student. As a women's college, it requires students to take on leadership positions within the community and grow in ways they would never have to in larger, co-ed institutions. It is small enough to offer a safe haven for students who have yet to stretch their wings beyond their own suburbs and small towns, while offering a diverse faculty with a broad range of national and international experience. The campus is beautiful and is located near downtown Columbia, Missouri which, while small, is bustling with interesting shops and activities. Its location near the much larger University of Missouri at Columbia offers not only significant socializing, but additional educational opportunities for those inclined to seek for it beyond the boundaries of the college.
Stephens is a small women's liberal arts college. Although visiting the campus you might feel that it is small, it is in a large academic setting. The University of Missouri (Mizzou) and Columbia College are both located in Columbia making one feel that they go to a large university.
Stephens has a very good theatre/dance department. If I had to do this over again, I would attend this college.
Pros: Small, liberal, outstanding faculty Cons: Small, some lacking resources
The U.S. federal government spends nearly twice as much paying interest on national debt as it does on education.
