I was a student and instructor at this local community college. It provides an education that is convenient for the local community however, as a student I found the foundation somewhat lacking when I went to the major university. It was a very rough transition as my level of preparation was not what it could/should have been. As an instructor I found tremendous competition and less emphasis on teaching than on community relations. The school does it's job but with a change of attitude could provide so much more to the students and community.
About a third of the students at Washington and Lee University still receive some financial aid from interest on an endowment set up by George Washington in 1796.
