ACC is a very cost-effective school in that it is less expensive than UT, and the curriculum taught is done using the same materials by people that are active in their chosen industries who hold a steady career teaching here in their spare time.
ACC is regarded as a powerhouse school for the reason that it produces students with real world job skills at a lightning fast rate. Their brand new game design program is allowing students to get a head start in the industry, and their art degree programs are filled with skilled and experienced craftsmen who really do know what they are talking about.
I recommend this college over others like the University of Texas in the Austin area, although it is often stressed that potential students seek counselors at least twice during their first semester. Instructors, students, and even department heads will be the first to warn you of how often an advisor will give you shakey or uncertain advice on what to do with your degree plan, so buyer beware, and steer clear of those that may not seem all that capable or secure in what they tell you.
Potential students should also consider moving outside of the ACC taxing district, as you will then no longer be subject to paying larger ammounts of money for your apartment, condo, or house.
The pros:
- a wide variety of campuses are spread over the city for easy access, so no matter which side you live on, you should be close to atleast one of the seven out there.
- Industry professionals that are active and current in their respected industries teach here.
- a very wide range of degree plans will await you.
The cons:
- most of the campuses have extremely limited parking (especially the North Ridge and Riverside campuses) so expect to get there early, or expect to walk a ways to get to class on time.
- Although it may be convenient living a block from school ACC taxing districts are not tilted in your favor, so expect to pay MUCH more if you live within one.
