OIT was founded as the
Oregon Vocational School in 1947 to train and re-educate returning World War II veterans. The name was changed in 1948 to the
Oregon Technical Institute. In 1964 the campus was relocated to its current location overlooking Upper Klamath Lake. In
1973 the name was changed to the Oregon Institute of Technology
