Be ready to go to school for many years! Also make sure that you know the setting that you want to work in. I know lots of people that thought they would be alright in one setting without researching it and ended up hating it and leaving. I would absolutely recommend this career to someone that is interested in the the healthcare field. They pay is not great but the rewards are wonderful (watching people success). The job market is great for this job as well.
THis is a great career for flexibility! You can choose to work full time, contract,or part-time. You can work with all ages of people from babies in the NICU to elderly patients in hospice. The many areas of the field are too diverse to adequately cover here. As you are training in this field, be sure to take as many classes in different areas as you can to have a full slate of options available to you and continue to stay abreast of the current issue in all areas of speech pathology!
