Working as an administrative assistant is a very unrewarding career. Not only is it tedious (making you question even getting a college education), it's so hard to care about that you feel like you might get fired at any moment. I would not recommend anyone end up in this situation.
I'm a virtual assistant which means I perform admin tasks for a variety of companies on a freelance basis, working virtually from my own office.
My background is in creative adminstrative fields, working in music and advertising which gave me good training in balancing workloads and prioritising.
I'd certainly recommend this career to someone who was good at self-management, go-getting and liked daily challenges.
Pros are:
Work from home, manage your own workload, be your own boss and get to choose who you work with and how you work.
Cons are:
Unsociable hours and sometimes stressful deadlines.

I worked for a laboratory corporation as an account set up and pricing specialist. I truly enjoyed my work but had issues with my coworkers. I would recommend this job for anyone who wants a clock in/clock out job where you do not have to worry about it once you are at home. It paid very well and had great office hours with weekends off. There was a bit of an overtime issue due to poor management, but this would be a case by case issue not an across the board career issue. I did not have to deal with the public and was not on the phone much, which was nice. As a basic data entry job plus some math, it was both relaxing and challenging depending on the day and project. You are also pretty much left to your own, which is nice. I would recommend this job to anyone who likes math and data entry and can work alone.
