Well, I'm an Internist for about 2,5 years now and I must say that I'm very pleased with my choice. I believe that is one of the few specialty's where one can truly treat almost all aspects of the patient and not be confined for just an organ or two. And most often, the Internist is considered as a kind of fireman, able to put out most of the fires.
The downside of the job is that, as a generalist, the Internist frequently ends up treating all those patients that the others don't want to treat: the very old and the very ill. Of course, our death rate tends to be high.
