I am a Medical Transcriptionist. Having an interest in the medical field would be my biggest tip for someone who is considering this as a career choice. There is a lot of memorization involved and enjoying what you are memorizing makes it much easier! The other thing that I would mention is that having the ability to memorize, a good memory, will also make this career easier to adapt to.
Recommending this career? I would most definitely recommend it as there is always going to be a need for us in the medical field. There have been strides in the Transcription field with voice to computer capabilities, with that being said, those documents still must be proofread. The proofreading would be done by a Transcriptionist. So, either way, the field will never be completely done away with.
I would not have changed things, if given a choice. Well, actually, the only thing I would have changed is how I learned the trade. I attended a local Vocational School. I wish now that I had attended a local business school or college. I believe my learning would have encompassed a much larger circle and I may have been more thoroughly educated.
I am a technician working under nurses (CNA). My job consists of helping people in a hospital or long term care facility with their activities of daily living. Adls are things like eating, going to the bathroom, grooming, walking with assisitance ect. I view my job as very rewarding at times, but takes a lot of patience and commitment. Many people do not stay in my job profession because of the situations you can be in like bodily waste and death.
