At present, I am a GIS Analyst. This is much more then just making maps digitally, and as such has a lot of growth potential for both government work and the private sector. Many colleges are offering certificate programs, or entire degrees so this is also available for those who've been working for some time but want to learn that skill which will help them up the career ladder. The only downside is that this may not be for those who aren't good with technology, as this largely requires knowledge of software, most often ArcGIS. However, once in I've found that I can do a variety of tasks that allow me to use my skills in a variety of fascinating fields.
The average American will hold 10 different jobs by the time they are 36.
