I am a director and producer of low budget B-movies. I would put "very positive," but it is a demanding job with sometimes very little return. Pay checks don't alwsys come when rent is due!
I directed a horror, "Blood Sucking Babes from Burbank," that has gotten distribution, but money is always slow coming. The good thing is that I have my own creative control and don't sit at a desk from 9 to 5. It's rewarding to sit in a screening with the rest of the cast and enjoy our accomplishment.
If I had to do it over, I couldn't help but choose this creative path but I would have done some things differently - like having a fun job to get me through the skinny times.
Producing and directing are not as glamourous as it may appear - it can be very creatively satisfying... especially when I get a good review, but it's a very "high risk" occupation. I'd say for anyone with the passion for movies and the arts, to go after it if that's what you really want.
As a film director i can say that i learned a lot from my job. The realisation process of film making is most important step. You must project your own vision about the script and must have an original look of everydays things. You must skilled on social relotionships. The Director is at the center point of the crew and must have good communication capabilities to express himself to get what he wants. It's like to be a governor of a small county. You must decide quickly and give positive feedback to the actors and to the crew. You must listen them, sometimes they have better visions then yours. But you must give the final decision.
If you have a different eye and if you think that you may express yourself trough moving images and sounds you might be a good director.
To be a film director is like to be the commander of the orchestra. You must orginize yourself very well, you must have a clear idea about what to do and you must be well balanced to use moving pictures, the dialogues and the music together.
If i have to do film directing job over again, i would still choose to go into this career.
